JEFF DRAKE
Brand and communications leadership.

Mullen. This is a company that understands the kind of rocket fuel needed to create great work: HUMAN INSIGHT.
Sounds simple, but, no. At Mullen, it is a total ball buster. With them, the pursuit of insight is tireless, unrelenting, and unsatiated. I learned from them that without the pursuit of an intimate and unique insight about the person you are trying to reach, advertising ends up just a "blah, blah, blah" message.
While at Mullen, I had the great fortune to watch and learn from Joe Grimaldi. When he presented, he taught. When he talked, it was always honest and sincere. I arrived at Mullen from Bozell/Kamstra through a merger between True North and Interpublic Group. Bozell/Kamstra was dismantled and a few of us went over to Wenham. My tenure there was relatively brief (compared to the many Mullen core staff) but rich in experience. I decided to leave at the perfect time though, when my prime account (EPA, Energy Star) was no longer investing in new ideas and pulling away from the agency. I left to work directly for my clients and for myself, with ambition to once again be a partner in a small, but succesfull agency, like the days at Reeves/Drake.
9/11 and our good friend Bill Weems.
Bill Weems was our independant producer for all the broadcast work we did for EPA's Energy Star.He was a great producer, a great father, a great humorist. An all-around great guy. He was on the plane from Boston that steared into the World Trade Center. I was learning a lot from him as a person. I've really missed him.

Bill "Weemsy" Weems. Extaordinary talent and human being. We all miss him deeply.
